David Maslanka has been composing and arranging for many years. His compositions and arrangements are performed quite regularly around the world. This work will challenge your ensemble in several ways. Maslanka uses harmony, tempo, and dynamics to create the tension and release the piece requires. Stylistic markings and phrase structure are very critical in performing this piece. Your ensemble will need confidence as there are several parts in the work where instrumentation is very exposed and thin. In the end, your ensemble will enjoy performing this work and it will be among their favorites!
Technical Notes: The percussion 1 part is for orchestra bells and xylophone. The percussion 2 part is for vibraphone and crash cymbals. The percussion 3 part is for chimes, orchestra bells and high/medium/low tom-toms. The percussion 4 part is for large suspended cymbal, tenor drum, bass drum and tam-tam.
