Watch out for UFO's, little green men, and martians in this fun and energetic piece from the great Barrie Gott called "March of the Aliens". This exciting piece begins with the percussion section providing an intense march-like rhythm. As the piece progresses, the brass instruments and saxes play slowly making some unfamiliar chords, until the woodwinds enter to play some fun runs. Eventually, the whole band is playing in a rhythmic fashion and you may find yourself feeling the War of the Worlds is upon you. A piece such as this allows you to add some visual effects to your show if you wish. You can paint your students faces green, have them wear shiny suits, or add any other dimension that you wish to add to the piece.
Technical Notes: This song is arranged to correlate with the Kjos method book "Standard Of Excellence", book 1, page 29.
The percussion 1 part calls for timpani, the percussion 2 part calls for bells, the percussion 3 part calls for crash cymbals, the percussion 4 part calls for snare drum and bass drum, and the percussion 5 part calls for advanced snare drum and bass drum. You may choose to use either or both of the percussion 4 and 5 parts - the bass drum part is the same on both, the only difference is the difficulty of the snare drum part.
