"Soul Man", an R&B classic, was originally recorded by Sam and Dave back in the 1960s. It was revived in a big way by the Blues Brothers, and now Paul Murtha's outstanding version is playable even by very young players. The trademark riffs are still there, but in a solid setting that's easy to learn.
Technical Notes: The oboe, French horn and bells parts are all labelled "optional." The arrangement features a "unified bass line", so any one of bass clarinet, baritone saxophone, trombone, baritone B.C., baritone T.C., bassoon or tuba will cover the bass part.
The percussion 1 part calls for suspended cymbal, bass drum and snare drum, and the percussion 2 part calls for tambourine and crash cymbal.
