Philip Sparke's "Parade of the Clockwork Soldiers" is an entertaining piece of music set up in the style of other "toy marches". The steady march tempo helps provide a solid rhythm as a wide range of varying dynamics take place. This song starts and ends quite softly but is very powerful in the beginning. The composer wanted the listener to feel as if a parade of toy soldiers was passing by the listeners and he was able to create this effect with masterful precision. This really is a great piece and will add something unique to your concert band's next show.
Technical Notes: The percussion 1 part calls for snare drum, the percussion 2 part calls for wood block and suspended cymbal, and the percussion 3 part calls for glockenspiel.
