This is an ancient Welsh air that was first published in 1794. Tradition has it that on his deathbed, David called for his harp and composed this lovely melody, requesting that it be played at his funeral. Accordingly, it was later played at the parish church. Lyrics were later added, which describe the melody's inspiration. This version for concert band retains all the beauty and simplicity of the original.
Technical Notes: Percussion I contains parts for mark chimes, snare drum and suspended cymbal, percussion II contains parts for tubular bells, bass drum and tam tam, and percussion III contains a part for glockenspiel.
