We've had customers asking for a good arrangement of "Ave Maria" for years, and when Wil Van Der Beek's edition went into print, we were thrilled! You'll be able to use this music for so many occasions. Concerts, contests, and religious performances come to mind, but we're sure you'll find other uses for this classic melody.
Technical Notes: Giulio Caccini (ca. 1550 - 1618), also known as Giulio Romano, was an Italian composer, singer and lute player. Caccini was employed by the De Medici family and together with Jacopo Peri, he is regarded as the founder of the opera. Caccini was one of the first composers to apply the monodic style. In this composing style, an expressive melody is merely supported by effective chords; a reaction to the then popular polyphonic style in which oftentimes complex patterns made of several melodic lines were used. Today, Caccini's music is receiving attention again. Much of the attention is through world stars such as Andrea Bocelli and Inessa Galante. In this "Ave Maria," the monodic style is easily recognized. The solo part con be played by several instruments, but a vocal soloist is also possible. The percussion, of course, is ad libitum. The C Treble Clef part is labeled "C Soloist". The solo B Flat clarinet part is labeled "B Flat Soloist". The solo E Flat alto saxophone part is labeled "E Flat Soloist". The E Flat clarinet part is labeled "E Flat Clarinet (Optional)". The E Flat alto clarinet part is labeled "E Flat Alto Clarinet (Optional)". The double bass part is labeled "Double Bass (Optional)". This band set also contains additional parts for concert bands using European-style instrumentation.
