Five authentic Slavonic folk tunes - "Yelenka", "Czardas", "The Ferryman Of Okhrida", "Love's My Permit", and "The Husser" - provide the material for this colorful and energetic symphonic statement. The contrasting moods of each section vividly display the vigor and passion of Slavonic peasant life.

Technical Notes: Tempo and energy are key to each of the dance-like sections ("Yelenka", "The Ferryman of Okhrida", and "The Husser"). Use clean, crisp articulations and stress the clarity of line. Note the simplicity of the lighter sections and balance the lead and background material accordingly. The two contrasting slow sections ("Czardas" and "Love's My Permit") should be played with great expression and passion. Do not hold back on the emotional nature of the music. Use rubato to enhance the feeling of each. Be precise with the consistency of the assymetric measures of "The Ferryman of Okhrida", and do not rush the tempo. After a simple and straightforward statement of "The Husser", th"Slavonic Dances" closes with a brilliant and fiery finale.
