Dvorak based his symphonic themes on music indigneous to America, and developed them with somtemporary rhythms, harmony, counterpoint, and orchestral color. This arrangement consists of the main themes from each movement of his famous "New World" symphony. This piece is a great choice for introducing classical music (with a great melody) to your young band.
Technical Notes: In 1892, Czechoslovakian composer Antonin Dvorak became head of the National Conservatory in New York City. During his three year stay in this country, he produced three of his great masterpieces: The Cello Concerto, The E Flat String Quintet, and, of course, his famous Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Opus 95 "From the New World". The mallet percussion part is for bells. The percussion 1 part is for snare drum. The percussion 2 part is for triangle and suspended cymbal.
