This third of six Haydn quartets, the well-known "Emperor" quartet has a theme and variations subject in the slow movement which is derived from a Croatian folk melody. It was commissioned to be the Austrian National Anthem, or "Emperor's Hymn". It became Haydn's personal favorite tune.

This book/CD package consists of a printed music score and a CD which includes two versions of each song from the book. The first is a complete version by the Bedford String Quartet, with soloist. The second version has the quartet accompaniment (minus the violin soloist) that you will use for performances!
