This song is a classic tune that is the essence of cool from the seventies. It is still very popular today, even with younger students. Victor Lopez has successfully arranged the Shaft theme for your marching or pep band performance. All of the famous licks are present in this straight-ahead chart usable in the stands or on the field.
Technical Notes: The "Pops For Marching Band Series" has a unique feature which allows the band director to customize the arrangement to fit their band in the lower voices. Each arrangement is published with two lower brass and woodwind parts, #1 and #2. They are printed in both bass and treble clefs. Also, an optional E Flat alto saxophone part is included which doubles the low brass and woodwind part #1. This will allow the band director to assign trombones, baritones, tenor saxophones and even some alto saxophones (if necessary) to balance the lower brass and woodwind sound. The electric bass part is also an optional baritone B.C. part. The E Flat baritone saxophone, electric bass, and baritone B.C. parts can be used as tuba doubles. Option #1 for low brass and woodwind can be made up of 1st trombone, 1st baritone, 1st tenor saxophone, and/or optional alto saxophone. The other option 1 is trombones. Option #2 can be 2nd trombone, 2nd baritone, and/or 2nd tenor saxophone. You can also use baritones and tenor saxophones for option #2.
