"Spring Song" is a wonderful piece by Jerry Nowak. Members of your young band will have a great time playing this song.

Technical Notes: The oboe part is labeled "Oboe (opt.)". The French horn part is labeled "Horn in F (opt.)". The bass drum/cymbals part is labeled "Bass Drum/Suspended Cymbals".

"Spring Song" should be played at a moderate tempo, a quarter note equaling 92, and in a legato style. Attention should be given to playing the quarter notes in a connected, smooth manner.

Phrase markings have been clearly included to stimulate the players to think in "musical thoughts" as they play. Be sure that the overlapping phrases are clearly presented. Attention to the dynamic markings will help to achieve a good ensemble balance.

The tempo at measure 29 should be only slightly faster. Let the ritard in bar 35 evolve gracefully to the fermata before the return to the original tempo at bar 37.
