Item number 1701565AW, 48 pages, $10.95 Ernesto Sixto de la Asuncion Lecuona y Casado was born Aug. 6, 1895 in Cuba. After conquering the piano and learning compositional skills at an early age, he went on to become the dominant force in Cuban music for many years. Combining traditional Afro-Cuban and Spanish rhythms with European romantic music and French impressionism, his music was widely cosmopolitan and even brought him fame in Hollywood circles. This collection of Cuban dances demonstrate his unique contribution to classical music. They have been meticulously transcribed from old 78 rpm records as well as piano rolls from the 20's and 30's. These melodies, with their origins in the ballrooms of Europe, are a fine example of the stylistically diverse compositions that this Cuban-born composer made famous in the world of classical music.
