Item number 1701695AW, 89 pages, $17.95 The release of this ballet in 1913 is a tale from which legends are made. Stravinsky, known for his liberal use of dissonance and complex rhythmic passages in his music, released the music to this ballet in 1913. A riot (at the premiere, no less!) promptly ensued. Many say it was because Stravinsky's music broke down the barriers of what constituted classical music to the audience (it actually brought laughter and jeers from some members of the audience) and others say it was because the ballet depicted ancient Slavic pagan spring rites including human sacrifice. Nonetheless, the piece has become one of the most revered works in 20th century music and is presented here in a one piano/four hands interpretation. This is a true classic! Please note that this piano reduction of the full orchestral score is Igor Stravinsky's very own reduction, not an unknown arranger's.
