Although he was the writer of more than 45 symphonies and numerous other works in his lifetime, his outstanding ability was overlooked as a result of one of his contemporaries, Franz Joseph Haydn. Even at this, his concerts were well heralded and attended throughout Europe. He is most widely known for starting a publishing company that released over 4000 works in its 39 year history, including works by Beethoven and Hummel.
