Dmitri Shostakovich was a marvelous Russian composer. His fifteen string quartets and symphonies continue to inspire the musical world today. Shostakovich was born and raised in the St. Petersburg area. His life of sixty years challenged him in every way possible. Shostakovich was diagnosed with a heart condition in 1966, and after learning the news, his music began to get more angry and dissonate. All string players will be challenged by this work. Along with the Russian melodies and harmonies, Shostakovich also used technical passages to take his audiences on musical journeys.
