Music played an important part in the lives of the Zuni Indians. They had chants that they used on many occasions, and these are two examples. A daily wake-up call, "Awakening At Dawn", preceded sunrise, and invited the people to "awaken" and greet the new day. The second piece from this sheet is "Recall Of The Tribal Hunters". About an hour before the hunters were expected to return from their expedition, the musicians began to "recall" them, by playing this piece, and repeating it every four minutes until their return.
